When I think of love, I think of unselfish service for others. For me, the ultimate act of demonstrating love is to serve others. If that’s true, could being a servant and being a leader be the same? Yes! You can be a leader who serves and a servant who leads.

Wait a minute, you might be saying. The words servant and leader seem to be on opposite ends of the spectrum—at least, that might be how you’ve always understood things. They might even be seen as conflicting with each other. But that’s the beauty of it: when two conflicting ideas, personalities, perspectives, or words come together, a compelling contradiction can be established.

In today’s world, love and leadership go hand in hand. Let me unapologetically say this loud and clear: you’ll never be a great leader without being loving, empathetic, and compassionate. You cannot have leadership without love or love without service. Leadership is love via service.
